Janet is a keyboardist/singer-songwriter; an “old-school” musician, ultra experienced in front of a crowd with a big voice and an even bigger love of performing. She makes an instant connection with an audience and has a lasting impression on her listeners who are sometimes taken aback by this small person with the incredible “pipes”.
Janet has played with bands such as The Elaine Dark Band, Have Mercy, Groovy G, Is My Slip Showing, The New View, Princess (the music of Prince), Ron Davis, Faith Nolan, The Coe Hill Girls and the jdw band, to name a few. She has an extensive songbook of cover tunes, anything from Hank Williams to Elvis; Doobie Brothers to Elton John or Amy Winehouse and Adele. Her original music is just that; original. Gospel, funk and roots influences and straight up pop tunes mark her debut CD “Pure Sunshine”.
Janet performs solo; as a duo with her bass player Jean Deeth; as a trio with Guitarist Aimee O'Connor or with her full band including trumpet, saxophone and drums. Janet is a consummate and experienced performer, having played many genres of music from musical theatre to piano bar, jazz combos, a tribute to both disco and the music of Prince, and arranging pop tunes to fit her unique and eclectic style.
Here's what Nora Young, CBC broadcaster has to say about jdw:
Janet’s charming and eclectic style is a heady cocktail. Blending chamber pop, jazz, and a dash of gospel, Janet’s songs live where Saturday night meets Sunday morning, and anything can happen.
Janet loves the kind of artfully turned lyrics and surprising, yet hooky, melodies of singer songwriters such as Elvis Costello, Rufus Wainwright, and Joni Mitchell.
In performance, the soulful sounds of gospel shine through Janet’s music.
